Origin of Abbyville name: Detail from 1858 Map of Norfolk County from Library of Congress, shows Abbyville and two rivers exiting Bush Pond before alterations to current configuration with dam. The waterway near the "Store" is the current "Tail Race" and history shows that it is a "river" which merits the protections of the Rivers Act.
